Chernobyl, located about two hours North of Kiev, Russia, is a hazardous place to visit and tourism is prohibited. Even though people sneak into the mostly-abandoned town, scientists have determined that the exclusion zone, where the reactor that exploded is contained by a metal shell, will be highly radioactive for another 20,000 years. A team of remote pilots known as Pro Art Inc compiled three-and-a-half hours of aerial footage, taken with a DJI Mavic Air 2, to showcase the calm eeriness of the infamous disaster zone.
The film runs a little over three-and-a-half hours, longer than most feature films. It can be found on the 4K RELAXATION CHANNEL – known for its drawn out meditative films, accompanied by soothing soundtracks. If you don't have the time or patience to watch 'Aerial View of Chernobyl Exclusion Zone' in its entirety, there are a few places the creators recommend you skip ahead to throughout the film.
The Duga radar, part of the Soviet missile defense early-warning radar network, makes its first appearance, from an entirely new perspective at the 27:38 mark.
