Yongnuo has unveiled its new YN 85mm F1.8R DF DSM lens for Canon RF mount mirrorless camera systems. The lens appears to be all but identical to the company’s YN85mm F1.8S DF DSM lens for Sony E mount camera systems.
The lens is constructed of nine elements in eight groups, features a seven-blade aperture diaphragm, has a minimum focusing distance is 80cm (31.5") and, much like Canon’s own RF lenses, features a programmable control ring that can be used to control aperture, ISO and shutter speed. This click ring also appears to have a ‘click/declick’ button for controlling whether or not you want hard stops when rotating it.
Autofocus is driven by Yongnuo’s digital stepping motor and although Yongnuo doesn’t elaborate on precisely how weatherproof the lens is, there is a gasket on the mount, which should help it stay at least a little more protected when attached to a camera body. There’s also a USB-C port on the lens that’s used to update the firmware. The lens measures roughly 67mm (2.52”) in diameter, 88mm (3.46”) long and weighs ~380g (.84lbs).
The 85mm F1.8R DF DSM lens for Canon RF mirrorless camera systems is available on Amazon for $398. It comes with front/rear lens caps, as well as a lens hood.
