Over the years, we’ve shared various power charging stations and solutions, but there will soon be a new product on the market that makes all the others look primitive by comparison. It’s called the PWRBOARD and, confusingly enough, it’s the first product by the company PWRBOARD, who showed off the device at CES 2022 this past week.
The PWRBOARD is effectively a ‘smart’ pegboard that puts a new spin on modular charging. The device will come in two sizes — 23cm x 35cm (16.5” diagonally) and 33cm x 50cm (23” diagonally) — and consists of an array of holes wherein various types of battery chargers snap into place and draw power from. If those sizes don't fit your need, PWRBOARD says it can also make custom-sized boards to fit your needs.
The PWRBOARD is made so the charging modules can be arranged however you see fit using quick-release fasteners on the back. Each charging module has built-in charging indicators and so long as there are free pegs to use, the PWRBOARD can handle as many chargers as you throw its way.
PWRBOARD says more than 30 charging modules will be available at launch, including battery chargers for Canon, DJI, Fujifilm, GoPro, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Sony cameras, as well as other chargers for standard ‘AA,’ ‘AAA’ and even V-mount batteries. You can see the full list of cameras PWRBOARD expects to support at launch on PWRBOARD’s website.
The board itself plugs into your standard wall outlet and also includes a variable power input that lets you choose between 110V/220V input or 12V/14V DC car power input so you can charge at home or on the go. It also includes a set of built-in USB-C and USB-A ports on the right side of the device for plugging in other batteries that might not have dedicated chargers yet.
The PWRBOARD will be crowdfunded in ‘early 2022,’ according to its creators. To ensure you’re one of the first to be notified, there is an option to reserve your spot for the ‘Early Bird Special’ for $1 on PWRBOARD’s website. The $1 deposit is ‘fully refundable at any moment’ and guarantees you’ll get the lowest price on the PWRBOARD when the crowdfunding campaign goes live.
