Nikon confirms it's increasing lens prices in the United States on August 1

Back in March, Nikon announced it was initiating a price increase across much of the world, due to ‘sever disruption in global supply chains.’ The price increase went into effect on April 1 and affected most of the major markets, sparing only the United States. That, however, will no longer be the case, as Nikon Inc. has confirmed to DPReview that the price increase make its way stateside starting August 1.

In the original price increase announcement, Nikon said:

‘Following a period of severe disruption in global supply chains, we have experienced continued cost increases to component parts and logistics charges. Whilst we have explored all options to absorb these costs, to maintain production on these lines moving forward, we are regrettably having to increase prices.’

This increase affected nearly all of Nikon’s camera and lens products, with a few notable exceptions: Sports Optics, accessories and ‘certain new products such as the Z9’ were spared in the price increase. In the U.S., however, it appears only lenses will be affect - and only certain lenses at that.

Nikon Inc. tells DPReview ‘Due to the impact of the increasing costs related to procurement and distribution, the price of some lenses has been increased. This change will be effective with retailers in the US starting August 1st.’ Nikon hasn’t provided a specific percentage the prices are expected to increase, now a specific list of lenses that will be affected, but we have asked for further clarification and will update this article accordingly when we receive a response.

We have also inquired about orders placed before August 1 that won’t ship until afterwards, considering some lenses are backordered. If it follows the guidelines laid out in the international price increase from March, all orders invoiced before August 1 will see the old price, while all orders - even if placed before August 1 - invoiced on or after August 1 will be subject to the price increase.

Either way, it might be a good idea to pick up your Nikkor lenses sooner than later if you’re living in the U.S. and were already planning on getting a lens - or five.
