Apple announces its new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus

Today, at its 'Far Out' launch event, Apple revealed its new iPhone 14 and 14 Plus smartphones, two of its latest iPhone.

At the heart of new iPhone 14 and 14 Plus is an Apple A15 Bionic chip with a 5-core GPU, 6-core CPU (two high-performance and four high-efficiency) and a 16-core neural engine. The Retina XDR on the 14 and 14 Plus are 6.1" and 6.7", respectively, and have peak brightness of 1,200 nits.

The camera system on the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are effectively the wide and ultrawide modules from the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max devices. The main camera uses a 12MP image stabilized sensor with 1.9μ pixels and an F1.5 aperture. The front-facing camera is also improved over the last-generation with a 12MP sensor with an F1.9 autofocus lens in front. Apple is also using its new Photonic Enginem which applies image processing on the data earlier in the pipeline to increase image quality on all the cameras. There's also Action Mode, which is an image stabilization mode for video that better compensates for movement when recording video.

Both the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus have 5G connectivity and eschew the physical SIM for eSIM. They also have a new Emergency SOS via Satellite mode that will connect you to a satellite for emergency situations when cell service is not available. Since the phone needs to have line-of-sight connectivity to a satellite, the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus will help you point in the right direction. Once connected to emergency services, you can send messages to update your status.

The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus will retail for $799 and $899 respectively. Pre-orders starting September 9. The iPhone 14 will be available starting September 16 and the iPhone 14 Plus will be available starting October 9. Both devices are available in black, beige, blue, purple and red.
